‘Why Are We Leaving?’
2018

Photoworks Photography Club,
exhibited as part of the Brighton Photo Biennale.

So many questions that feel left unanswered. With uncertainty in the unknown changes that the future holds a group of young people worked with Lynn Weddle as a collective to explore their understanding of Brexit and its impact on the young people of Brighton &Hove. Asking the questions everyone is thinking.

As a group the young people came together not knowing each other, not knowing much about the meaning of Brexit and with a basic understanding of the photographic image, its incredible power and how to utilize it. We have explored the construction of the image and explored our city as a group to document and use it as a stage to present to you, the viewer, our thoughts, our concerns and our voices about the future post Brexit.

It seemed interesting that there didn’t seem to be much information out there for young people to learn about Brexit and its changes to our society, our worlds. This in itself from the basis for our group exhibiton and collection of works, we pose questions, as we don’t have and couldn’t find the answers.

Our campaign wishes to open up questions with you the audience about the changes to other relationships with the EU and our country soon to be sitting beside it.

The installation presents our images, as we would like them to be seen as a almost peaceful protests to evoke questions for us all to contemplate.

We invite you, the audience, to give your comments on what the future will look like in the New Europe.
